Pricing
How our pricing works, and why we quote in bands first
We will not publish a single headline price for work we have not seen. What we will do is tell you exactly what makes up your invoice and confirm the number before we start.
Invoice breakdown
Four components, itemised every time
All prices quoted are GST inclusive.
Call-out fee
Covers travel and attendance. Quoted before dispatch and varies with distance from Glenroy and the time of day. It is a separate line on your invoice, never hidden inside 'labour'.
Labour
Charged for the time on site. A straightforward lockout is short; a seized mortice lock in a dropped door is not. We give you a range on the phone and a firm figure once we can see the door.
Parts and hardware
Cylinders, deadlocks, handles, keys and blanks are quoted individually. You will be told the brand and the price before anything is fitted, and you can choose a different option.
After-hours loading
Work outside 8:00am – 6:00pm, on Sundays and on public holidays attracts a higher rate. It is disclosed on the phone, not discovered on the invoice.
Why we do not advertise a $49 lockout
Very low advertised prices in this trade are almost always a call-out fee dressed up as a total. The technician arrives, the number changes, and by then you have been waiting an hour and feel stuck. We would rather quote a realistic band and hold to it.
What changes a quote on site
- The lock is a different type or brand to what was described on the phone.
- The door has dropped, swollen or been previously forced.
- A key has snapped inside the cylinder and needs extraction.
- Existing hardware has failed and needs replacement rather than opening.
In every one of those cases the technician stops, explains what has changed and gives you a revised price. Work does not continue until you agree to it.
Questions worth asking any locksmith
- What is the call-out fee, separately from labour?
- Is that price GST inclusive?
- Will you attempt non-destructive entry before drilling?
- If you drill, what will the replacement cylinder cost?
- Will I receive an itemised invoice?
- What warranty applies to labour and to parts?
We are happy to answer all six before you book. If another provider will not, that is useful information.
